Sue has worked in the Work Based Learning sector since 1991; this followed a career in Retail management with two leading high street retailers. Sue began her career in training as a retail assessor at Gordon Franks Training in 1991 and was soon promoted to Business Development Manager, supporting small to medium sized businesses put systems in place to support staff training. In 1999 Sue set up a consultancy business supporting other work based learning providers develop their quality of teaching and assessment practices. In 2001, through a LSC support initiative, she developed and delivered training to support providers embed key skills into their apprenticeship programmes. 1n 2010 Sue re-joined Gordon Franks Training as a consultant following their poor OFSTED inspection; with the aim to help re-structure the company and improve learner outcomes and teaching learning and assessment. In 2012 Sue became Managing Director of Gordon Franks Training Ltd with a high expectation to improve all aspects of delivery and to move the business forward especially targeting learners from central Birmingham and neighbouring areas with significant levels of deprivation and high numbers of young people not in education, employment or training, particularly those from Asian and Black communities. In March 2014 Gordon Franks Training Ltd was inspected by OFSTED as “Good” and in September 2017 following a full inspection retained their “Good” grade. Inspectors commented in the report: “Strong, inspirational leadership has created a highly motivated cohesive staff team that has improved learning for students on pre-apprenticeship programmes and for apprentices” ” Since the previous inspection, managers have continued to develop arrangements to provide an accurate evaluation of the quality and performance of their programmes, which has helped them to maintain the quality of provision to a high standard since the previous inspection.
