Lesley McCormack is the founder & managing director of multi award-winning Michaeljohn Training School Manchester. Lesley is responsible for strategic leadership and management, with specialist responsibilities in equality and safeguarding and the Prevent duty. For over 35 years she has ensured that MJTS embraces the ethos of welcoming people from all and walks of life & backgrounds and inspiring people to achieve their aspirations, resulting in high qualification achievement rates that leading to sustained employment. Key responsibilities for her role include, the annual revision of the single equality scheme that ensures that learners, including the 50% with ALS needs and the 55% that reside in areas of deprivation, receive good and information, advice and guidance support – tailored to individual needs. MJTS good strategic planning ensures that stretching equality targets are achieved and impact assessed annually therefore promoting inclusion, social value & mobility. During Lesley’s tenure MJTS were officially the highest rated training provider (2017 employers and learners in England FE Choices annual government survey). She has been instrumental in the design of trailblazer standards as a member of hair & barbering and teaching qualification trailblazer groups. Lesley has led Michaeljohn Training School to 2 ESF equality awards, for strategic management and planning. MJTS were first provider in the in country to achieve the Equality Standards & are completing Disability Aware Standard. She has supported other providers strategic direction, and addressed meetings at a variety of venues on equality & inclusivity, including narrowing differentials within groups. Lesley is an active member of the AELP, and Greater Manchester provider network. Assisting GMLPN to provide training on the Prevent agenda to providers in the north-west and championing the ambassador program to provide information, advice and guidance within schools. Passionate about apprenticeships Lesley continues to promote enrichment opportunities to apprentices, staff and employers. Including participating in the London Paris and Milan fashion shows; providing opportunity to develop skills & showcasing the success of English apprenticeships across Europe. In 2018, she is supporting and promoting volunteering and fundraising activity for people who rough sleeping and highly vulnerable in the city of Manchester.
