Waheed Saleem

Ambassador for The Asian Apprenticeship Awards 2017

Waheed Saleem is management consultant and works as Board Member and Non-Executive Director in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Waheed is contracted to a number of organisations and individuals providing support and advice in organisational change, business development and bidding for public sector contracts. Previously he gained director level experience in the NHS working in a number of strategic areas in different parts of the country.

In addition, Waheed gained strategic level experience as Chair and Non-Executive Director of major national and regional public and voluntary organisations. He is currently Non Executive Director Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust; Trustee of NACRO; Non-executive Director of Nacro Pension Fund; Non Executive Director Paycare.

He has previously held a range of senior positions both nationally and regionally including, Chair of the Lunar Society, the regional learned society; Non-Executive Director Metropolitan Housing Association; Interim Chair of CORE Education Trust; Non-Executive Director of Sustainability West Midlands, where he chaired the judging panel for the first UK 50 Green Leaders competition; Non-Executive Director of the National Crime Squad; UK Sustainable Development Commission; Meat Hygiene Advisory Committee; Rail Passenger Committee; Government Office West Midlands; Chair of a major health and social care partnership Right Care Right Here; Chair of Groundwork West Midlands; Non Executive Director Groundwork UK; Chair BBC Audience Panel West Midlands and member BBC Audience Council England and and ex-Vice President Asian Business Chamber of Commerce representing small and medium sized businesses in Greater Birmingham.

He has also led major regeneration programmes and advised Government on neighborhood renewal policy and community development and participated in a special feature for Regeneration and Renewal magazine on future regeneration skills. He has been instrumental in developing leadership programmes for young people and mentors in inner city schools.

Waheed has appeared on regional, national and international TV news channels, appeared in and written for regional and national newspapers and blogs.

Waheed Saleeem graduated from the London School of Economics in Social Policy, a fellow of the RSA, Member of the Association of Corporate Governance Practitioners and PRINCE 2 qualified and we are proud to have him supporting the Asian Apprenticeship Awards.
